How a Simple Font Upgrade with Vest Transformed Our Brand

It started with a label. We were relaunching our line of natural soy candles and wanted the packaging to feel more refined. I had designed the first round in a generic sans serif font, and while it wasn’t bad, it didn’t feel like *us*. It wasn’t until I discovered Vest—a clean, modern all-caps display font—that everything clicked into place.

Vest has a bold, minimalist charm that instantly gave our candle jars a boutique-level finish. It’s the kind of font that looks good in both print and digital—whether it’s stamped on a kraft paper tag or featured in an Instagram post. Its sans serif style feels current without being trendy, making it a smart long-term choice for small brands like ours.

What I love most about Vest is how it elevates everyday design elements. From product packaging to thank-you cards, it brought a sense of cohesion we didn’t realize we were missing. Before, our branding felt scattered—different fonts for different uses, some handwritten, some overly formal. With Vest, suddenly everything looked like it belonged together.

Where Vest Works Best

Vest shines in short, impactful text. It’s a display font by nature, so it’s perfect for headlines, logo designs, packaging titles, and social media graphics. We use it on our candle labels, product tags, and even our menu board at the little pop-up shop we run on weekends.

Because it’s all caps and sans serif, it reads clearly at a glance. That’s especially helpful for packaging or signage where customers might only have a second to take it in. On our candle jars, Vest looks clean and intentional—never fussy, always readable.

Typography Matters More Than You Think

When you’re running a small business, it’s easy to overlook typography. You might think, “A font is just a font,” but the truth is, it plays a huge role in how customers perceive your brand. The right typeface can make your business feel more professional, trustworthy, and memorable.

Before Vest, our brand visuals didn’t quite match our product quality. Our candles were hand-poured, eco-friendly, and beautifully scented—but our packaging looked like it was thrown together. Switching to Vest helped us visually communicate the care and intention behind our products.

Typography affects everything from first impressions to readability. On social media, Vest gives our brand a strong visual identity. On product tags, it ensures the text is easy to read—even from a distance. And on our website banners, it helps draw attention to key messages without overwhelming the eye.

Designing with Vest in Real Life

We started with candle labels, but Vest quickly became our go-to font across the board. Here’s how we’ve used it in different areas of our business:

  1. Logo design: We incorporated Vest into our new logo, giving it a clean, modern edge.
  2. Packaging: Every candle jar now has a printed label in Vest, making our product line feel cohesive.
  3. Thank-you cards: A simple stamp with Vest text adds a personal, polished touch.
  4. Social media: We use Vest in our Instagram templates to create a consistent visual feed.
  5. Menus and signage: At our weekend pop-up, Vest headlines make the menu easy to scan and visually appealing.

If you're using Vest in your own business, think about where you want to make the biggest visual impact. It’s ideal for short, bold text—perfect for branding that needs to stand out without being overwhelming.

Readability Tips for Small Businesses

One thing to keep in mind: Vest is best used at a readable size. For small product tags or mobile thumbnails, make sure the font isn’t too tiny. While it’s crisp and clear, it still needs space to breathe. We found that using it at 14pt or larger on printed packaging gave the best results.

For digital use, especially on social media thumbnails or website banners, pair it with high contrast colors. We often use Vest in black on a white or cream background for maximum legibility. If you're using it on a textured background like kraft paper, consider a slightly bolder weight if available.

Font Pairing Made Simple

One of the best things about Vest is how easy it is to pair with other fonts. Since it’s a strong display font, it works well alongside softer, more readable typefaces. Here are a few combinations we’ve tested:

These pairings help balance the boldness of Vest without competing with it. The key is to let Vest take center stage while supporting it with more understated typography underneath.

What to Check Before Using Vest

Before you start using Vest in your business materials, be sure to check the font’s included styles, file formats, and licensing. Most premium display fonts like Vest come with multiple weights, alternates, and ligatures that can add visual interest.

We downloaded Vest in both OTF and TTF formats so we could use it across design platforms. It also includes multilingual support, which was a bonus since we occasionally sell internationally. Most importantly, the commercial license allowed us to use it on product packaging, digital ads, and client-facing materials without any restrictions.

Always double-check font licensing before using it on merchandise, packaging, or templates you plan to sell. With Vest, we had full permission to use it across our brand, which gave us peace of mind.

A Small Change with Big Results

Switching to Vest wasn’t a huge overhaul, but the impact was undeniable. Our branding looks more polished, our packaging feels more intentional, and our customers have responded positively. It’s amazing how a single font can help your business feel more put together and professional.

If you’re a small business owner or creative entrepreneur looking to elevate your brand visuals, give Vest a try. Whether you’re redesigning product labels, refreshing your social media look, or building a new website, it’s a versatile, modern font that can help your brand stand out—in the best way.
